Abstract
a wide range of agLlogical conditions, from the hot humid lowlands through semiarid midlands to the fool wet highlands, as defined by mega environments. There is no crop variety that canlbe adapted over such a wide range of agro-c1imatic conditions. Hence the need to devolop varieties that fit particular mega-environments. In crop variety development, it s routine procedure to evaluate potential cultivars widely over seasons and sites fo bio-adaption, yield and stability prior to release of the best variety to the farmers for commercial use. As agricultural research scientists, we owe it to the farmers to avai all the relevant information on varieties, regardless of origin, in terms of adaptability , performance level and stability as well as other characteristics desired by the con umers; such information will be afforded by results of multi-site evaluation trials conducted on crop varieties in target agro-ecological regions
