Abstract
We are interested in land because it is a resource. and as a resource produces thingsof value to us. Land which produces no products or services of value to anyone is by defini, tion not a resource. The problem of land use planning is part of the general domain of resource al1ocation. The general economic proposvtions of resource allocation all relate ,to geUing the maximum amount of good [rom a given bundle of resources. The maximization of returns fI'om a quantilty of resources also goes under the name of economizing or rational planning.
