Abstract
A vailability of veterinary services is a major constraint in the arid areas of Kenya. The government resources to run veterinary practices do not meet the rising costs within the veterinary sector. An increasing number of pastoralists are turning to ethnoveterinary medicine. Several ethnoveterinary studies have been conducted in other pastoral areas of Kenya but not in Ormaland. The objective of this study is to assess the adequacy of the government veterinary services and elicit ethnoveterinary information among the Orma herders.
