Abstract
For nearly twenty years there has been little trouble with thrips on coffee (Coffea arabica.L.) in Kenya. This decline from major to minor importance is generally associated with the practices. Of mulching and overhead irrigation. However, following the poor short rains of 1966, when only 242.4 mm of rain were recorded at the Coffee Research Station during October1966 to January 1967 compared to an average of 356.2 mm for the same months in the previous twenty years, thrips were unusually numerous and caused considerable defoliation in certain areas. In view of this situation, the opportunity was taken to review the advice given to growers on thrips control and this paper describes field trials with, several standard and new insecticides.
