Abstract
One major obstacle to the full acceptance of scouting for Heliotbis armigera by Thai Cotton Farmers is the amount of labour involved(l). Consequently, there is considerable interest in Thailand to reduce the labour input into scouting by identifying sites of oviposition and larval feeding so that the farmer can assess the pest status of his crop by scouting relatively small parts of each plant. The following reports are the direct result of a request from The Cotton Insect Pests Section to the Colombo Plan Entomologist to initiate studies aimed at the improvement and streamlining of current scouting recommendations •
