Abstract
The East African Agriculture and Forestry Research Organization (E.A.A.F.R.O.) is an interterritorial research organization administered by and forming part of the East Africa High Commission. It was set up in 1948 and absorbed the earlier East African Agricultural Research Institute at Amani, Tanganyika, which was started in 1927. E.A.A.F.R.O. is financed jointly by the three East African Territories of Kenya, Tanganyika and Uganda, by the Protectorate of Zanzibar, and by the United Kingdom Government through Colonial Development and Welfare Funds. Its headquarters and central laboratories, experimental farm and forest plantations are in Muguga Forest near Nairobi on a site generously given by the Government of Kenya.
