Abstract
The soils of the three farms occur in agro-climatic zone I which has a ratio of average annual rainfall to average annual potential evapotranspiration of 80% with a very high potential for plant growth assuming that soil conditions are not limiting. The three farms have soils which are developed on pyroclastic rocks (mainly tuffs) and occur on one geomorphic unit- the uplands. The soils are generally well drained, deep to very deep, dark reddish brown, friable, clay soils with chromic and ferric properties. The soils classify as Acrisols, Alisols and Lixisols.
