Abstract
The fertility appraisal of the soils in the Amboseli-KibHezi area was done on the basis of pot tests, using a doable-pot technique, and soil analytical data. Crop response (maize) observed in the pot tests V'Tas compared with analytical data on available P, available and 9:l::changeable I~, rag and Ca. Clear graphical correlations between pot test results (stemlen€;1ihs) and available P, exchangeable K, JIg and Ca 'It,ere found. Derived optimum concentrations of P, K, Mg and Ca for good crop yields corresponded. well the available nutrient values recommend.ed by mehich et al (1964). Subsequently for these four elements available nutrient levels were defined, ranging from very 10';7 to very high.
