Abstract
An Englishman was once asked why he kept Ayrshire cows, and he replied that his chief reason was that Scots would not have stuck to the breed for so long and taken it to every corner of the world if it had not been a sound paying proposition. That,in fact,is the Ayrshire's chief claim to popularity its ability to give a steady commercial yield of milk and butterfat over an exceptionally long lifetime.
