Abstract
Kenya Trypanosomiasis Research Institute (KETRI) was formed in 1977 following the break-up of the East African Community to provide to Kenya the Trypanosomiasis Research Services previously provided under the East African Community. It is one of the five Institutes established on behalf of the Government. It has a mandate to carry out all aspects of research that would lead to the treatment and the control of trypanosomiasis in man and animals, and to practical reclamation of tsetse infested land. Its activities encampass the Ministries of Health (human trypanosonaasis), Livestock Development (animal trypanosomiasis) and Environment and Natural Resources (Wild Life).
