Abstract
D.D.T. has controlled the common coffee thrips, Diarthrothrips cofJeae Williams, in Tanganyika for about seven years, but during 1956 the insecticide failed completely to check the rise in populations at Oldeani while it continued to be satisfactory on Kilimanjaro. An investigation suggests that the Oldeani strain of thrips has built up a resistance to D.D.T., but there is an indication that another factor, vigour tolerance, may be involved.
