Abstract
The coffee market in this country has been steadily expanding in importance since before the second world war, and although the per capita consumption is still one of the smallest of the principal coffee-drinking countries, the import figures of recent years are impressive and are now about the fifth largest in the world. At the time of writing, the coffee trade in this country is facing perhaps the severest test ever, and, with the derationing of tea in October and now the impact of higher prices through importation of fine coffees from world markets the consumer's loyalty to coffee as a beverage is being strongly tried.
