Abstract
Heterosis over mid-parent vaIue and over rhe better parent, inbreeding depreslsion and potence ratio were studied in five cmsses of Upland Cotton, G. hirsutum L. art Ithe Ootton Research Station Kibos. No appreciable) amount 'Of heterosis for any of the character~~) seed cotton yield, lint yield, lint percentage, lint idex, fibre length and earliness, was obser ved. Slight inbreedlllg depression was observed) and potence ratio estimates indicated that there) was mostly incomplete dominance for th~1 characters. A cytogenetic explanation is advanc ed for the absence or low expression 'Of hete rosi,s in Upland cotton.
