Abstract
In the last 3 years, the collaborative soil fertility replenishment, pilot project in western Kenya has been involved in developing and testing a partiCipatory research and dissemination approach: Participatory Learning and Action Research (PLAR) for Integrated Soil Fertility Management. This approach has been tested at pilot level in some villages near Maseno (ICRAF\KARI\KEFRI soil fertility replenishment project) and at Mutsulio village of Shinyalu division, Kakamega district (KARI\KIT collaborative project). The approach was found to be effective at pilot level with hundreds of farmers testing different soil fertility management strategies. In an attempt at scaling up the experiences obtained at Mutsulio, a 3 weeks training workshop for ministry of agriculture's' extension staff from selected districts on PLAR was organised.
