Abstract
Coffee leaf rust caused by Hemileia vastatrix is a very serious disease lin Tanzania particularly tat lower altitudes around 1000 m a.s.l. Both common species grown in Tanzania (Arabioa and Rdbusta coffees) are susceptible to coffee rust disease. Presei1t1y,the only way to combat this disease is the use of copper fungicides accompanied by better ,coffee husbandry. Several tomato cultivars were tested both in the glasshouse and in the field for susceptibility to an isolate of Cucumber Mosaic Virus. The cultivars were found to be susceptible to the disease and the virus caused severe damage to the plants. Significant growth, flower and/or yield reductions were detected in five of these cultivars.
