Abstract
Following a request by Assistant Director (Soil and Water, KARl), through the Director, National Agricultural Research Laboratories, a soil survey of 13.45ha of Machiala Farm was carried out for three weeks in December, 1989 and January, 1990. The objective of the survey was to assess the suitability of the soils for crops which climatically adapt well to the area. During the same period, a topographic survey of the far was simultaneously carried out by B .M. and S.M. Wataka. A contour map of the farm was compiled and presented to the owner of the farm. This will form a good basis for the design of soil and water conservation structures.
