Abstract
A sample of sun-dried Citharinus meal from Lake Rudolf (L.R. fishmeal) produced on a small scale, was tested as a protein supplement for table poultry and bacon pigs. Chicks were given total dietary levels of 5 percent, 10 per cent and 15 percent L.R. fishmeal. The two higher levels significantly increased the growth rate, especially when compared to an all-vegetable diet, but also in comparison to a diet with 10 per cent meat and bonemeal. The 5 percent L.R. fishmeal also gave significantly faster growth than the all-vegetable diet, but not as fast as 10 percent meat and bonemeal.
