Abstract
Recently it was reported from overseas that a consignment of railway sleepers from East Africa showed heavy damage by wood-boring insects, usually referred to as borers. Concern over the resulting loss of timber and labour, not to mention the waste of shipping space, caused the Timber Control and Military Authorities to call for a technical examination of the problem which is believed to be almost world wide at the present time.
