Abstract
The indigenous vegetation on the S.E. Aberdares is markedly zoned, and closely related to the gradients of rainfall, temperature and altitude. In general it is true to say that temperature drops and rainfall increases with altitude up to 10,000 ft. Prior to 1953, the area above 8,000 ft. was a haunt of game animals and apart from casual hunters lighting fires, there was little disturbance of vegetation.
