Abstract
The coconut plays an important role in the coastal strip, wherever rainfall permits its cultivation. It is a food crop of the first order on which many common dishes are based. It provides a refreshing drink to the farmers and the travelers. It is the sources of highly valued palm wine. In addition the leaves are indispensable as roofing material and for fences. An important aspect of the tree is also that it in production throughout the year and allows for regular cash income to the farmer. It is said to be a highly dependable source of produce.
