Abstract
Reactions of 13 maize cultivars to natural inoculum of Exserohilum turcicum were studied in four locations of Uganda representing a range of natural disease intensities. Percentage leaf area blighted and the number of lesions per leaf were assessed at the same growth stages (GS 8-9.3) in the four locations. Across the locations, Babungo 3 and Population 42 were the most resistant genotypes while the inbred line B73 was the most susceptible. The gene Htl (B73Htl) was only effective under low or moderate disease intensities. Only chlorotic lesions formed on B73Htl, probably indicating presence of race O.
