Abstract
During the period 2005/2006, the section was involved in various research activities as follows: (a) Evaluation of new fungicides for management of major coffee diseases; (b) Enhancement of coffee quality through prevention of mould formation in coffee. This is an interdisciplinary global project funded by FAO with an appointed internal coordinator who is expected to give a progress report including the contribution of Plant Pathology Section; (c) Development of a strategy for durable management of the resistance to Coffee Berry Disease (CBD) in Africa. This project is funded by European Union (EU) and the Coordinator is the Head, Breeding Section. The progress of this project will be reported under Breeding Section. A study is in progress within the project entitled: Diversity and genomic organization of disease resistance genes in coffee (Coffea L) as part of PhD work for E K Gichuru in collaboration with ClRAD/IRD, France.
