Abstract
There are two species of Leaf Miner in the East Rift coffee areas. The shade-loving Leucoptera caffeina is the more important species in Upper Kiambu. L. meyricki is commoner in unshaded coffee.Despite the fact that much West Rift coffee is heavily shaded Leucoptera caffeina has not been recorded and is either very rare or absent. If it is absent, and this is the most likely possibility, it is very important that it should not be accidentally introduced. For this reason planters in the West Rift areas are urged,in their own interests, not to import seedlings from the East Rift. They should either grow their own or buy them from within their own district.
