Abstract
The diversity and intricate distribution of soils in Kenya has necessitated studies to be done on soils in order to avail information that could be used by planners, farmers, engineers and scholars in general. In Kenya, most of this work is done by the Kenya Soil Survey for different parts of the country. Individual workers in Kenya have also contributed papers to different scientific forums singling out specific soils and availing information on them. Most of the work done by the Kenya Soil Survey is usually on systematic pre-selected areas. Synthesis on individual soil units is not normally emphasized. The authors have therefore seen a need to look at particular soils classified as problem soils for attention. Interest in the analysis of abruptic soils has arisen from the use to which these soils have been put in different parts of the country and the problems encountered. Since their distribution is not limited by climatic variations, it is necessary to enlighten the users of some problems posed by these soils.
