Abstract
Routine soil and leaf analysis advisory services for coffee growers were launched at the Coffee Research Station (CRS) in 1973 and 1971, respectively. These are analytical approaches to determine the soil fertility status and nutritional level in the plant tissues. For coffee production, the two analytical methods are complimentary in determining a fertilizer programme for increased coffee yields and a gradual build-up of the soil fertility. The technique involves soil and leaf sampling, and then preparation of the sample for the analysis. The analytical data obtained is then interpreted by using the documented charts for nutrient contents for the soil and leaf tissue.A fertilizer programme is then evolved to cover a given period and a recommendation is then given.
