Abstract
In the tropics, many attempts have been made to cross European breeds (Bos ta/lrus) with the indigenous stock (mainly Bos indicus) in order to combine the high yield and good dairy temperament of the former with the characteristic heat tolerance of the latter. Several writers have reported the superiority with regard to milk yield and dairy temperament of the FI progeny (European bulls x Zebu cows) over the Zebu and have attributed the good milk yield partly to heterosis (Maule, 1953).
