Abstract
The work of the Institute consists essentially of studying the problems involved in controlling pests by chemical meallE. As far as possible these problems are tackled by chemists, physicists and biologists in co-operation. The chemists are mainly concerned with the behaviour of the pesticide after it has been applied - how long it lasts, where it goes and methods of detecting minute quantities; the physicists mainly with methods of applying the pesticide in the most efficient way, and with the effect of meteorological and other conditions on the efficiency of the application and the biologists mainly with the life hi,stories and behaviour of the pests themselves and how these affect problems of control, and with the reaction of the pests to the chemical concerned. The experimental work of the Institute is reported under the different groups of pesticides - insecticides, herbicides, fungicides and molluscicides - and in each section all three groups of scientists are involved.
