Abstract
In a trial which compared the effects of five insecticide treatments on Siratro seed crop. A control and spraying with endosulfan, DDT, endosulfan plus dimethoate and dimethoate gave 139, 186,238,340 and 343 kg/ha of clean seed respectively. Harvesting, weeding, establishment and insecticide constituted nearby 55, 37, 6 and 0-2 percent of tile overall production costs. At the current seed 'price spraying becomes essential to accrue reasonable marginal profits. Counts of inflorescence, flowers and ripe pods were not influenced by insecticide treatments, but green pods were. Dimethoate proved superior to tire recommended DDT and was especially effective against meloid beetle and markedly increased seed yield.
