Abstract
This year's Budget presented to Legislative Council by the Minister for Finance, Mr. E. A. Vasey, has been accorded a fair welcome. While it must be impossible for the Minister to produce a Budget satisfactory to everyone of us Mr. Vasey,on this occasion, seems to have come fairly near it. It will be a cause of concern to some of us that our sundowner, whether it be hard or soft,is going to cost us a little more but if we weigh this in the balance against the removal of the Emergency Surcharge we should- most of us- still remain in credit. The proposal to do away with Estate Duty should have the most profound effect on attracting investment capital to the Colony and must also be a source of considerable happiness to the next generation, who will probably not be unduly worried by the increase in their school fees.
