Abstract
"The Kilimanjaro Native Co-operative Union Ltd. has recently celebrated its fourteenth birthday. It is an essential part of the organisation of the Chagga tribe who inhabit the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro and have cultivated coffee for a great many years. From small beginnings this Union, which is purely native. has developed into a very strong economic association, the membership in January 1946 being over 27,000.The members own about 15,500 acres of bearing arabica coffee, producing nearly 4,000 tons of parchment coffee annually, besides other crops. The coffee and other crops are all handled by the Union, the most developed and advanced of its type in East Africa."E.
