Abstract
In the marginal rainfall areas of Kenya, cow pea (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.) Is an important grain legume and hence one of the alternatives to' animal protein since cow pea is a readily available source of protein in these law rainfall areas (Keya et aT., 1979). Animal protein, although preferred, is economically out of reach far the bulk of 'the subsistence farming population occupying marginal rainfall areas.
