Abstract
All attempts to differentiate Ormocarpum from other genera in the Hedysareae have made considerable use of staminal disposition. Past descriptions of Ormocarpum Beauv. have been diverse but almost all seem to have been based on the idea, which seems reasonable enough in view of the constancy of the staminal grouping in many parts of the Papilionoi"deae, that a natural genus ought to show but one type of staminal grouping, or, if two be found, one must be a slight variant of the other. P. de Beauvois (1806) in his original description of Ormocarpum states that the stamens are diadelphous without specifying whether the (5) + (5) or 1+(9) arrangement is meant, his plate however suggests a monadelphous arrangement.
