Abstract
Nitosol occur mainly in the Kenya Highland whereas rhodic Ferralsols occur mainly in the extreme western Kenya in the area of Kitale. The soil occur under a range of altitude, rainfall and parent material; in the light experience in Kenya, it may be necessary for the separation of Nitosols to take certain basic features into consideration more strictly. These features include pronounced textural change from Athorizon yo B-horozon, the very favourable structure, the relatively high inherent fertility and the invariably red colours and clayey texture throughout the profile. Similarly for the sepration of rhodic Ferralsols from other Ferralsols the CEC, the degree of crystallization of the clay mineral the amount of kaolinite and relative percentages of sesquioxides could be taken into consideration.
