Abstract
The lalkeside soils of Bukoba are very variable in their productivity, some areas, locally termed "Bibanja" land, produce good crops of coffee, bananas, cassava and sweet potatoes.Other areas,"rweya" land, are largely under grasses. Hyparrhenia, Digitaria and Eragrostis ssp. predominating. Lower yields are obtained on the transitional zone between the "rweya" and the "bibanja" land.
