Abstract
The year 2006 was satisfactory as far as rainfall and subsequent agricultural production is concerned. In most parts of the mandate region the long rains came in April and continued normally up to harvest while the short rains began late in October and continued way into January 2007. The favourable weather conditions during the year enabled successful establishment and harvesting of crops under on-farm testing in the various sites of the mandate except LM5 zones of Koibatek district. The favourable weather conditions in the region also meant there were no serious feed shortages for livestock. There were no Livestock losses due to starvation except those that died due to Rift Valley fever.
