Abstract
National Sugar Research Centre, Kibos was started in 1969, to serve as the centre for Sugarcane Research. Prior to this, sugarcane research services in the Ministry of Agriculture were poorly organized. Field experiments were planted on private farmers' field plots at Kibos-Miwani area, Kisumu District. Laboratory investigations were carried out at National Agricultural Laboratories (NAL) Nairobi, on the sugarcane grown under Kabete conditions. Therefore, the station was established to provide a centralized facility for sugar research in the country. It was redesignated National Sugar Research Centre in 1974.
