Abstract
From the results of fertilizer trials carried out in Uganda up to 1949, Manning and Griffith [1] concluded that annual crops in Uganda do not generally respond to potassium fertilizer. Consequently no further field investigations of crop response to potassium fertilizer were carried out during the next ten years. In support of the conclusions from these early field trials, a series of pot tests carried out at Kawanda between 1955 and 1958 on a range of soils collected from all parts of the country a~so indicated that ,soil potassium deficiency in Uganda is rare [2].
