Abstract
The weather conditioner during the whole year was very favourable in both middle and upper zones of the District. The March/April rains were however inadequate in lower areas and in fact in Mwea Location some food crop never germinated. But the situation changed during the October/ November when rainfall was so heavy that everybody started worrying of the danger of floods. No floods came however, and the lower areas benefited from these rains that a bumper crop for short rains is expected. Nearly all seasonal streams were full during short rains. The rain gauge reading at Kairuri Station for example during the month of October was 523.40 Mm. which was in fact almost 1 of the total rainfall received in that particular station during the year.
