Abstract
In 1958 the Animal Husbandry Division of the East African Agriculture and Forestry Research Organization commenced a series of experiments concerned with the problems of pig feeding in East Africa. This work was carried out in co-operation with the Pig Industry Board of Kenya, with the object of providing the Board with sufficient information to enable them to formulate a cheap, but efficient protein supplement that could be distributed to the pig farmers for use with their freely available carbohydrate type feeds, such as maize, barley and cassava (Manihot IItilissima).
