Abstract
The grain-eating weaver bird Quelea quelea is an important crop pest in East Africa, which needs to be controlled every year. In order to detect and control this pest before it causes extensive damage, National Plant Protection Departments (NPPDs) have to carry out aerial and ground survey of the vast potential and traditional breeding areas. The Desert Locust Control Organization for East Africa (DLCO-EA) supports the NPPDs of its member countries (Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda) with aerial survey and control.
