Abstract
Two experiments were conducted at the National Dryland Research Station, Katumani, Kenya, during the October 1984 and March, 1985, seasons. Beans consisting of types NB1122, NB518, NB5l0, NB26, NB140l and Tepary were seeded at a spacing of 45 cm between the rows and 10 cm within the rows. Maize (Katumani Composite 'B') was seeded a spacings of 135 cm x 30 cm, 105 cm x 30 cm, 75 cm x 30 cm, and 45 cm x 30 cm. Control plots consisted of mono grown bean cultivars and maize representing each of the spacing regimes.
