Abstract
In General the long season areas of \1estern Kenya, where the late maturity maizes are grown had a good maize growing year in 1970. The rains started promptly in February/ March and were Hell distributed during the major port of the growing season. Kakamega received a total of 2319.5mm which has 158% of the annual average. Ki tale also exceeded the average annual rainfall. Excessive rainfall and stormy weather during the latter part of the year caused much lodging and cob rot.
