Abstract
The effect of Chlo rsulfuron (2-chlor o .... N-[( 4-methoxyl-l, 3 ,5-' triazin -2-yl)aminocarbonyl]benzenesulfo-namide) , the active ingredient in Du Pont Glean weed killer, on primordium initiation and production in five spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L. ) cultivars Ramona, Stewart, ~:exico 120, ~iilin.g and Al.,1ssie 20917 'Was examined in a 1>lediterranean type of environment. Rates and duration of leaf and spikelet pri~ordia initiation and production were estimated and total number of spike lets on main shoot OIS) ' " tiller 1 (TI), tiller 2 (T2), final leaf number (~:s), fertile tiller number, floret initiation and production, and grain yield per ruwere estimated. The mode of action of Chlorsulfuron is by inhibiting plant cell division and is proposed to affect grain yield of spring wheat cultivars which show sensitivity to, its application.
